This book was about a heroin addict's struggle to be clean and the effect that her drug use had on the people around her. Racheal's addiction is so bad that her arms were at risk of being amputated, due to the wounds from all the needles she used to shoot up. The book was a great read and also has some photos at the end.
Confusing and garbled...states the same exact facts and stories over and OVER again. It's also written by a person from Ireland so the slang and regular terms don't make sense to me as an American,I literally either couldn't understand what the author meant or it was some thing being restated & I found myself getting very bored as a recovering addict there's lots of books better than this one.
One of the best addiction stories I have ever read! A real page turner. Rachael went to hell and back and survived, eventually conquering her demons. She teaches us all that there is hope and redemption, no matter how bad your addiction is. Kudos to Rachael for telling her story. You go girl!
This is a newer version of the US story of Alice many read in the 70's about a young girl introduced to drug use. Rachael's share is raw, honest, and revealing as it should be. She also gives evidence of how broken our system is to treating addicts and the frustration of dealing with it - with incarceration being an answer not something to fear or be avoided. Parents feeling guilty about their children (yes children - 14 is an average age of the introduction to opiates/heroin) and what to do should read this book to know that being tough and stepping back can be the answer.It also gives a 'front line' exposure to an addict's thoughts - not textbook - 'shoulds' or advice from those not directly affected.
An ok book. I am glad I read it but if you don't you are not really missing out. She really went to the bottom but I could have used more detail. If you are gonna read a memoir about addiction read Blackout and Dreamseller before this.
Possibly the most harrowing memoir of addiction that I've ever read, and I've read many. It's a miracle that this young woman is alive and I'm so glad that she's triumphed over her deadly disease to bring her message of hope to other addicts who are still suffering, Bravo Rachel!
I really enjoyed this book. As a recovering drug addict myself, I really identified with the author. I think that this book would help those who have loved ones that are battling a drug and or alcohol addiction. It will give you a first hand account, the feelings of shame & depression that come along with addiction. The one thing my family would ask me is why don't you just quit? I wish it was just as simple of that, but it is not. First of all you have to really want to be clean, and second you have to work for it. This is a wonderful book and very inspiring!
Wow! This story of her journey gives me hope for my addict son. I know addicts can overcome their life of addiction. Her story gives such a detailed testimony that with the right help and support addicts can live a successful life of sobriety. Thankful that I found this wonderful, encouraging book!
